Includes a visit to the historic Elkhorn Ghost Town, it's mountainside cemetery, and upper workings... and then continues BEYOND, to numerous additional mining camps, millsites and homesteads. A complete transverse of the high Elkhorn Mountains, down the eastern slope into mining districts along Keating Gulch, and back via one of 2 alternate routes. ::: $100 per person. 4x4 Adventures along the Milwaukee Road Historic Railroad Corridor. TUNNELS & TRESTLES GRAND LOOP :: 8-10 Hour FULL Day. Some Higher Elevations in Mountain areas. This is a LOOP tour, and has departure nodes in the following locations - Helena, Boulder, Butte, Whitehall, Three Forks, and Townsend. Pick-up is arranged when you call. Those wishing to take this tour from Bozeman pay a small, out-of-area surcharge, or can book one of the Sixteenmile Jawbone History tours, which are similar, and pay no additional charge. This tour does require some short hikes to points of historic interest. Hiking is typically very mild and level, as we hike along the old railroad grade. This tour covers the most ground of any we offer, and takes a full day. You will see a variety of terrain as we jeep along 4x4 mountain roads and some railroad grade.
