The 'Boy Scout' motto of "BE PREPARED!" couldn't be a more accurate mantra to keep in mind, when you plan to travel into Montana's wilderness
backcountry. Be knowledgeable about what kind of trip you are booking.

'Out-N-Back' Trips are usually 2-3 hours. 'Half Day' Trips average from 4-5 hours, and 'Full Day' Trips can be anywhere from 8-12 hours,
depending on what trip you've booked.

We want you enjoy your trip in the Backcountry to its fullest! This is why we strongly recommend that you give some thought to the following
suggestions, to ensure a truely outstanding Jeep Adventure!
SUNSCREEN :: While many think that the sun is our friend, it won't take long to
learn that at 9000 feet, the sun is a force to be reckoned with.
It takes less than 30 minutes to get a burn on uncovered,
previously unexposed skin. We ride ALL DAY WITH THE
TOP OFF! We STRONGLY advise that you use a sunblock
of at least SPF 30. Fairer completions should use an even
higher SPF. Sun-hats are an excellent choice in your arsenal against
over-exposure from the Solar Nemesis. Long-sleeve T-Shirts of
neutral/dull color are also great defenses - when we get higher up,
it get's cooler, and the sun's thermo-nuclear radiation is more intense.
Long-sleeve T-Shirts give you versitility throughout the day.
Yikes, MOSQUITOS! To DEET or not to DEET, that is the question ::
This is your choice, although in some marshy mountain
meadows, mosquitos become Montana's unofficial
state bird! Again, being prepared is the best
solution for warding off an onslaught of air-bourne
WEE BEASTY ASSAILANTS! We recommend
OFF
Brand, with it's insanely daunting 98% DEET active
repellent, if you can find it. Check the ingredients for
98% DEET, and Rock Their World! I've had this
stuff work for 2 days on overnight camping trips!

Also, a delightful alternative for you Non-DEET fans; SKIN SO SOFT.
Oh yes! You'd better believe it! Whatever is in this stuff, works on
most people to keep the flying minions at bay, and it smells rosey!

KNOW YOUR LIMITS & BRING YOUR MEDS ::
We take pride in bringing you face-to-face with the awe and beauty of the Montana
Rockies... so sit back and relax! You have nothing to prove to us... so if you aren't
feeling up to a quick hike or if the elevation starts to get to you, PLEASE let your
guide know! We can (sometimes) take a lower elevation route that still provides you
with an excellent experience. It is important to understand what type of tour you are
booking. This is why we talk to you
BEFORE you book your tour.
BRING YOUR CAMERAS!
Definately feel free to bring you cameras! You never know
what we'll encounter in the backcountry... moosesses,
elksies, deersies, and even antelopias, flocklic in the
twilight of dusk! Be sure to bring film if using 35mm or the
like... and extra 'charged' batteries if using digital. Once
we leave your pick-up area, there are few-to-no places to
pickup film or batteries. So be sure to have these ready to
go at departure time.

Always bring your medication with you..
ALWAYS. In the event of a closed route,
bad weather, or mud/rockslide - we may
have to re-route along alternate paths
which could take longer than expected.
It is NEVER a good idea to leave
medications behind thinking, "Oh, I'll take
that when we get back at 6pm..." A few downed
trees in the road (though rare) could make that
9pm. BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.

GOT YER SUNGLASSES??
It's bright out there...
sunglasses are always
good idea. Cut down
on dust and glare!
WARMER CLOTHING ::
This is more of an issue during the cooler times of our
season (esp. September & October) when it's alot cooler
in the high country than the valleys. June through August
generally don't require more than maybe a light jacket for
later afternoon tours. During late-season Fall Color high
country tours we recommend having a jacket, gloves, and
a cozy hat. If you've ever been to Yellowstone Nat'l. Park
during autumn, you know what we mean.

FOR YOUR SAFETY & PEACE OF MIND ::
ALL INDIVIDUAL JEEPS, & AT LEAST ONE JEEP in each
tour GROUP, have the following items onbaord for your
safety in the event of an emergency.
