WELCOME TO GRIZZLY MOUNTAIN JEEP ADVENTURES
:: Howdy! Welcome to Montana's Premiere Backcountry Jeep Tour Company! My name is J.D. Jacoby. I am the founder and head guide for Grizzly Mountain Jeep Adventures, based in Bozeman, Montana :: Proudly serving Bozeman, Butte, Helena, and Virginia City. Our company is founded on the idealism of taking you to places that must be experienced to be truely appreciated. Such places are rarely photographed, and few folks actually ever get so far off the beaten path to witness first hand the silence, solitude, and grandure available in Montana's wild and unspoiled backyard. We take great pride in providing you the opportunity to leave the pretentious tourist trail far, far behind. We present to you - places noted in history, but forgotten by time. Places that you'll rarely ever see in magazines, on postcards, or even hear others talk about. Many of our tours have limited bookings. This is to insure that such special, unspoiled places remain just that... For us, it is not about making a dollar, just to give someone something to do while in Montana. It is an opportunity to open the eyes of one's spirit, to experience timeless majesty. Such an ideology is rarely found elsewhere... and is evident in our practices. We have a number of backcountry tours that cannot be booked or bought... for any price. We do not advertise such places, we do not charge the very, very few people we ever take to them. In an era that has forgotten the bliss of simplicity, we all deeply long for such places to escape to... no matter how brief. Grizzly Mountain Ghost Town is such a place. And although, you'll never find it on a map... and you'll never see pictures of it. It is but one of the many treasures we offer to our friends. As a way of sharing something precious and timeless; the gift of pristine solitude and unbriedled adventure. Experiences. To truely understand what we're talking about... one must live, however brief, the special moments of solitude that haunt these mountain spaces. We hope all of your memories made with us will haunt your heart, and free your spirit. -------------------------------------- J.D. Jacoby, Founder |

About J.D. Jacoby
:: J.D. Jacoby, founder of Grizzly Mountain Jeep Adventures, is no stranger to the idea of backcountry and wilderness experiences. Having worked many years for outfitters & private tour companies in Montana, Texas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, New and (Old) Mexico, J.D.'s pioneering spirit, friendliness & enthusiasm are at the heart of every adventureous route created within our company repertoire. Originally an historic preservationalist architect, J.D. found a brief 3 year niche in Colorado, where he worked for the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, as both a 4x4 Backcountry Ranger, and an Historic Preservation Field Architect. J.D. is credited with research documentation of a number of well-know historic mining-era sites throughout the Colorado High Country. These include work in and around the Silverton area, (Animas Forks, Mineral Point, and the Old One Hundred); The Commodore & Amythyst Mines, near Creede, not to mention sites near Ouray, Telluride, Gunnison, & Grand Junction. It was his experiences while working along the world famous Alpine Loop, high in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, that he discovered a life-long love of jeeping and 4x4 adventure! It was this passion, combined with wilderness and desert guide experience gained in Texas' Big Bend National Park, and El Parque Nacional Sierra del Carmen, in Coahuila & Chihuahua Mexico, that infused J.D. with an idealism and appreciation for true solitude... This was not just a fascination with the road less traveled, but rather, a love of experiencing the road beyond the road less traveled. The forgotten trail. The lost highway to places people rarely, or never went. |

In an age of über-convenience, cell phones and internet,
J.D. valued these off-the-grid, lost-in-the-middle-of-nowhere treasures.
Timeless, existentialist spaces. Kicking around deserts in New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada, earned him a reputation as an off-the-beaten-path naturalist, ghost town preservationalist, mining & railroad era historian and 'Zen' Cowboy. All of which endemnify J.D.'s passionate and charismatic personality. J.D. rarely meets a stranger. Grizzly Mountain Jeep Adventures is the culmination... and product of, J.D.'s years of experience in cultural and historic preservation activism; naturalist, wilderness, and 'Leave No Trace' ethical practices; Railroad, Ghost Town and Mining Era research & recreational adaptive re-use facilitation. J.D. operates Grizzly Mountain Jeep Adventures :: June 15th thru October 15th, annually. Winter months are spent working in the Film & Motion Picture Industry, as a Producer, Production Designer, Art Director, and Prop Master. www.imdb.com/name/nm1780615/ |
